About The Cold War: Year By Year

SUBSCRIBE FOR A SURPRISE! The Cold War is generally defined as spanning from the end of World War II (1945) through the dissolution of the Soviet Union (1991). NATO soldiers directly faced Russian and Warsaw Pact soldiers along the borders that came to be called the 'Iron Curtain.' Cold War action was not, however, limited to Europe. There were standoffs and limited wars between Western and Communist proxies that occurred on almost every continent. Among them were actions in Korea, Cuba, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Dhofar, the Congo, Angola, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Colombia. Nuclear weapons and the concept of Mutually Assured Destruction kept the general 'peace' during the Cold War. But that 'peace' was probably better characterized as an absence of war due to a state of constant fear of nuclear annihilation. The Cold War: Year By Year' aims to explore all aspects of the period—America’s longest conflict.
